JKA Enterprises, Inc
is proud to now be offering water filtration services for our customers. We spent a long time looking for a supplier that would provide a product that met all of our own demands for a treatment system. We've chosen a product line that provides Point of Entry treatment, with minimal pressure/flow loss, and that we believe stands up to our own tough standards for how long a product should last, while requiring very little maintenance over a long product life.

What is water filtration/treatment?

Most consumers don't realize that 'water filtration' is actually a type of water treatment. Water treatment is the generic term used for filtering, cleaning, and managing a water supply, while water filtration is only the process of removing small particles from the water.

How do I know if I need a treatment system?

Believe it or not, most wells don't NEED treatment. Most treatment products are designed for cosmetic water problems - smell, taste, color, etc. However, most people find that they want some kind of water treatment. Is it necessary? Not if your water supply meets EPA standards. Will it make you more comfortable with your water supply? Absolutely!

What kind of treatment systems are there?

That's a tough question to answer. The type of treatment used is entirely dependent upon what you want to do with the water. If you want pure water from every faucet within your home, including at the washing machine, you'll need what is generally called a Point of Entry system (POE). If you want water that is bottled water quality at your kitchen sink, or frigerator door, you could do with just a reverse osmosis system under the counter top - any single point system such as this is called a Point of Use (POU) system.

POE systems tend to be sized to demand on the system. Generally, the most cost effective method of treating water like this is by using storage tank POE systems - the water is pumped from the well, treated, then into a storage tank system which provides for enough treated water to meet peak usage requirements (typically, peak usage is measured from 7AM to 9AM & 5PM to 7PM). However, you have to be careful to seperate the treated water from un-treated water - such as the water used to wash your car from the water you drink. This can all be accomplished with detailed system design & usage analysis.

What do I need to know before I get a system installed?

There are a number of questions you need to ask yourself before you install a treatment system.  The more you know about you & your families water usage, the more accurately a system can be designed, thereby leading to a long and happy relationship between you and your well water.

The first and foremost question you should ask yourself - "How do we use water in our household?". An example of an itemized list would look like this:

Note that we will provide you with questionaires if necessary

  • We have two bathrooms, one is the master with two sinks, one extra deep tub, two shower heads. The other is a typical full bath arrangement - tub with shower head, sink, toilet, etc.
  • The kitchen consists of a double sink, dish washer, and a fridge with water tap & ice maker. The dishwasher is brand new, and we cook at home 5 days out of the week.
  • We have 3 outside lawn hydrants, and two faucets on the side of the house. We don't have an irrigation system or livestock to water.
  • We generally drink bottled water & cook with tap water.
  • We have two children under 12, each takes a bath. My husband/wife & and I take a 5 minute shower each. We shower in the morning, baths are at night.
  • Dad likes to wash both cars on the weekends, if the weather is nice.
  • We only water the lawn during the summer, and only if it's starting to get brown.
  • We do have a hot tub/spa that we fill once a year.

Are treatment systems only for use with well water supplies?

No. In fact, most bottled water products are from public water supplies - they take the water from the city water main and treat it before bottling. The same process can be performed under your sink, near your fridge, or at your water fountain.

What brands do we recommend?

We currently are using the Water Right brand of softeners, filters, and treatment systems. Additionally, Flint & Walling, our pump manufacturer sells a series of basic cartridge filters. Occassionally we will work with Water Dog systems & Cascadian Solutions.

How much does it cost?

The upfront costs for a water treatment system is can seem pretty scary, ranging from $1,000 for a simple system to over $20,000 for some of the more complex systems. However, if you put it in terms of dollars per gallon, it becomes a different story all together. Lets assume that the average family of four consumes 4 gallons as drinking water per day (out of a total of 325 gallons used on a daily basis). Also assume that a gallon of pure water at the store can cost around one dollar. At that rate, it takes the average family of four less than a year to pay for the cheapest of treatment systems - and that's only with the drinking water. If you buy your cooking water & wished you could take a shower somewhere else, a treatment system starts to look cheaper & cheaper.

Yearly upkeep costs can range between $50 & $500, depending upon the volume of water being consumed & the materials required to keep the system running. We generally recommend that the user sign up for a service contract for the system, this way we can monitor the well water, the performance of the system and take care of any potential problems before the system is damaged. Typical service contracts are billed on a monthly basis at around $20 to $50 per month.

Typical installations include basic labor to get the system in your home/garage/well house, plugged in & running, materials & additional labor would be extra.

Payment is accepted in the form of cash, check, or we also accept Master Card's & VISA.

What kind of warranties are available?

We guarantee our workmanship for at least a year, and most of the treatment systems come with a 10 to 5 year manufacturer warranty.
